Vocal Hygiene: Stay well hydrated—drink plenty of water throughout the day. * Avoid frequent throat clearing and coughing. * Breathe through your nose to help filter and humidify the air. * Rest your voice when you’re sick or after heavy use. * Avoid yelling, screaming, or speaking over loud noise. * Practice good posture and breath support while speaking. * Limit caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate the vocal folds. * Avoid smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. * Monitor vocal load and schedule voice breaks throughout the day. * Warm up your voice before heavy use and cool down afterward. *

About The Voice House Concept

The Voice House" is a concept I developed to help clients achieve clear, healthy vocal quality, especially for those with muscle tension dysphonia. It encourages patients to visualize their voice as if their head were a house. Different areas of the house represent different voice qualities: the attic is breathy, strained, and squeaky (like acute laryngitis); the basement has a glottal fry or gravelly sound; down the hall feels tired with low inflection (like after a long day of talking); and the front door represents the ideal vocal quality—clear, easy, with effortless pitch variation and no strain. We train our clients to feel their voice.  Where is their  coming from, the throat, back of head or near the lips? The target  is voicing at the  FRONT DOOR of your voice house.
